AFAIK, these gadgets tend to be USB HID class devices nowadays. Try to look for a list of devices for that particular model of laptop; or for drivers, that might be more indicative than the numbers on the chip etc. Or, if somebody has the same model up and running, might give you a clue looking into the "device manager".
