As with MIDI, I think the concern is in introducing earth loops in the controlled equipment, rather than in the comms system itself?

BTW why dont you opt for FSK modem ? if you plan to send audio signals.

I think he's just controlling audio equipment - not transmitting audio signals?
(again, like MIDI).
