I am staying away from TI from here on out. You cannot trust that the micro is going to be around for even two years, they just NRND the whole LM3Sxxx line of their micros.

I will agree with Erik that 32 bitters are more cumbersome. There are multiple levels of registers that need to be set/reset to do anything with I/O. I have worked with Renesas, Freescale and TI. I will say that Freescale has software to help you configure the I/O and TI has APIs in ROM to help configure I/O.

Generally I agree with Erik's opinion, something that might take an hour on an 8052 will take 2 hours with a 32 bitter.
