Cygnal Raises Performance Bar With 6 New SoC Devices
Back to News List

AUSTIN, TX (05-Feb-2001) -- Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. today announced the expansion of its popular C8051F0xx family of field-programmable, mixed-signal system-on-a-chip microcontrollers with the addition of six new members. Powered by Cygnal's enhanced 25 MIPS 8051 compatible CPU and an additional 2K bytes of on-board RAM, the C8051F005/6/7 and C8051F015/16/17 are pin-for-pin compatible with Cygnal's existing C8051F000/1/2 and C8051F010/11/12 offerings, providing users with a simple and cost effective performance migration path. Expanded on-board RAM together with increased CPU bandwidth enhances support for industry standard 8051 C Compilers and further enables single-chip solutions for many applications such as motor and motion control, barcode readers, information appliances, home automation, security systems, smart sensors and optical communications.

Cygnal's latest offerings feature an enhanced 8051 compatible CPU delivering up to 25 MIPS at 25 MHz, 32Kbytes of in-system programmable FLASH memory and 2.3Kbytes of RAM. System cost, development time and parts count are all reduced by integrating UART, SMBus*, and SPI* serial interfaces, four 8051-style timers, and a five-channel programmable counter array (PCA). Analog peripherals include a choice of 12-bit (C8051F005/6/7) or 10-bit (C8051F015/16/17) analog-to-digital converter, a temperature sensor, two 12-bit digital-to-analog converters, voltage comparator(s), and a voltage reference.

The rapidly growing C8051Fxxx family of microcontrollers is supported by Cygnal's $99 development kit - a comprehensive development tool with capabilities typically found only in emulators costing thousands of dollars.

The devices sell for between $12.13 and $14.91 in 1,000 piece quantities, and the C8051F005DK and C8051F015DK development kits sell for $99.00 each. Both are available for purchase at http://www.cygnal.com.

Cygnal Introduces New User's Group

Cygnal recently added a User's Group forum to its web site dedicated to supporting users of its popular C8051Fxxx microcontrollers. Users can log on to the site to obtain technical support and to share ideas and solutions.
