#190140 - Power rating of potentiometers
A fixed resistor with a specification of 1000 Ohms / 1W can handle about 30mA maximum current.

Considering a potentiometer with the same rating - does the maximum current apply to both the winding as well as the wiper contact ? Or is the wiper contact rated higher to handle situations of zero resistance settings with no external reistor to limit current ?
